Since 2009 Afghan Connection with the M.C.C. has run 34 cricket camps for over 2500 girls and boys all over Afghanistan.
Cricket Camps 2013
During 2013 Afghan Connection, supported by the M.C.C. ran 6 camps for boys in the East and one for girls in Kabul.
All the camps were carried out successfully in the schools where pitches had been built, on time and reached a total of 300 direct beneficiaries. Curriculum for the camps included:
- Basic cricket skills
- Wicket Keeping
- Rules and Regulations
Afghan Connection also held a girls’ cricket camp in Kabul in October, funded by a private donor and will continue to support cricket for girls.
AC would like to consolidate its support in cricket. We have reached 22 provinces with our projects. Over the next 3 years we would like to focus our efforts on key areas of Afghanistan which have a strong cricketing base or which have shown a keen interest in the sport. We would like to begin in the East of Afghanistan.
The plan would be to identify 5 schools in one region where pitches could be built in schools during one year. Simultaneously, we would hold 5 cricket camps for children in that region, inviting students from the schools where we are building pitches and integrating these students so that healthy competition can build up between these schools. Coaching camps will be held for teachers in this area ensuring sustainability for the teaching and practice of cricket in the schools where we have built pitches and in other regional schools. Three different areas will be tackled over the three years of funding and our aim in the last year will be to hold a competition between all these schools.
